In 2016, the launch of Pokemon Go caused a global sensation, with enthusiasts venturing outdoors to seek their digital companions. This groundbreaking game encouraged players to walk, run, and even drive in the pursuit of capturing their favorite digital creatures, bringing joy and excitement to millions. The thrill of catching new creatures and battling for control of gyms captivated players, but the initial excitement dwindled by December due to slow updates and seasonal changes in the Northern Hemisphere. Following the decline of Pokemon Go, Niantic sought to replicate its success by introducing new games, including a Harry Potter-themed game. Despite the potential of connecting with the fanbase through Pottermore, the Harry Potter: Wizards Unite game flopped, partly due to negative remarks by JK Rowling, which alienated the community and the public.
Niantic’s subsequent release, Monster Hunter Now, initially seemed unappealing to me, and I hesitated to invest in it. However, as I discussed with friends while scheduling Summer Game Fest appointments, one of them shared their enthusiasm for Monster Hunter Now, highlighting the enjoyable experiences they had while playing the game over the past year.

Because of this friend’s recommendation (Wowowong), we decided to meet with Niantic to preview the Season 2 content for Monster Hunter Now. The primary focus of the meeting was to show off the Elder Dragon hunts; season 2 marks the introduction of Elder Dragons. Since Dragon Raids are location-based, you’ll have to find a node that turns into an Elder Dragon Interception point. For the meeting, we faced off against the Elder Dragon, Kushala Daora. Since it was later in the day, we had to rely on the Niantic employee to fight against the Elder Dragon.
Before embarking on the hunt, we were granted a valuable opportunity to study the weaknesses of the monsters and adequately prepare ourselves. The demonstration provided us with access to all the available weapons and an abundance of resources, making the hunt slightly more manageable. Despite the support of the Niantic employee, we were unable to vanquish the Elder Dragon. However, we did succeed in breaking it, ensuring that we earned some valuable rewards from the encounter.
For those contemplating diving into the world of Monster Hunter Now, this new update presents an opportune moment to begin the adventure. The new update seems like a good quality-of-life update to give players something they will enjoy.
