Warframe Spiritual Precursor Dark Sector Free on Steam

Dark Sector

The holiday season is that special time of the year when it is better to give than to receive. Digital Extremes, the studio behind the free-to-play action RPG Warframe, has the holiday spirit. For a limited time, one of their older titles Dark Sector is available on Steam for free!

Dark Sector thrusts players into the role of Hayden Tenno, a covert operative sent on a dangerous mission into Lasria, an Eastern European city on the brink of ruin that hides a deadly Cold War secret.

The team at Digital Extremes sees Dark Sector as a spiritual precursor to their ongoing live service game, Warframe. Originally released in 2008 for PC, PS3, and 360, this third-person action shooter throws protagonist Hayden into a dystopian viral spread nightmare. Many components of Warframe and its upcoming update Warframe: 1999 are heavily inspired by and pay homage to Dark Sector. Those looking to see the inspiration for themselves can download the cult classic for free on Steam.

Dark Sector (normally $9.99 USD) is free for the next 72 hours. This promotion will run through Saturday, November 30th. More information on the upcoming Warframe 1999 update can be found on the game’s official website.
