Earlier today, Nintendo finally revealed their next console, the Nintendo Switch 2. During the short two-and-a-half-minute trailer, a glimpse at the latest entry in the Mario Kart franchise was briefly shown. While there has been no official title yet to be confirmed, the game visually looks very different from its predecessor, Mario Kart 8. It is safe to assume this next entry is not another port or spinoff, but none other than a true to form Mario Kart 9!
The Nintendo Switch 2 trailer was very short, only containing seventeen seconds of Mario Kart 9 footage. The seventeen seconds of gameplay didn’t reveal a whole lot about the upcoming title, but it did show off some interesting details. The art style is very different from Mario Kart 8 and is similar in style to that of the 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie. The snipped of gameplay revealed an all-new course “Mario Bros. Circuit”. This circuit appears to take place in a desert theme reminiscent to that of Mario Kart Super Circuit’s track, “Mario Circuit”. The trailer also confirms eighteen of Mario Kart 9’s returning characters.
Confirmed Roster:

Additional information on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, and Mario Kart 9, are incredibly scarce. Nintendo did confirm a Nintendo Switch 2 Nintendo Direct, which will take place on April 2nd, 2025. Until the latest Nintendo Direct streams, more information on the console can be found on Nintendo’s official site.
