Pop-culture is currently in a state that celebrates remakes and while it can get tiresome I find myself enjoying this type of content. Risks are fewer and remakes have become more and more robust. In games, we’ve seen remakes and remasters many times over with several releases that take the original game and elevates it above and beyond with new technology and gameplay offerings. Capcom knocked it...[Read More]
There were tons of excellent games spread throughout the Washington State Convention Center during PAX West. So many that it was quite the daunting task for me to narrow down the best of the best. Just know that there are gems I missed. That aside, let’s dive into five of the best games I played at PAX West 2019, with an honorable mention for some cool swag.
During my time at PAX West 2019, it was full of excitement, games, and so much more. While it was quite a busy time of seeing indie games and more. I got to head over to the Dot Emu booth to check out some titles that really caught my eye. As you can guess already by the title, those games were Streets of Rage 4 as well as Windjammers 2.
Not long ago, I had the chance to check out Bus Simulator at PAX East 2019 at the Astragon booth. During that time, I had the chance to talk to Chris Rosario about the upcoming 2019 release of Bus Simulator on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. While talking about the game, I picked up the PS4 controller that they had set up for the hands-on and started up the demo. I was greeted with a friendly pass...[Read More]

At PAX East 2019, we got our hands on a game that is often considered one of the best RPGs of all time. During our hands-on preview of Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition on the PS4, we got to see how Second Edition Dungeons & Dragon rules can be applied to a turn-based video game. I was originally introduced to Baldur’s Gate and D&D from Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance. Little ...[Read More]
Earlier last year, the world was shocked by the announcement that Telltale Games was shutting down after multiple years of publishing popular narrative games. For six years, fans of Irrational Games’ Bioshock franchise have searched for a dystopian steampunk adventure that could rival their beloved franchise. Before heading to our hands-on preview with Storm in a Teacups‘ Close to the Sun, we knew very little about the title. PAX East 2019 was a crazy turn of events for us here at Marooners’ Rock. Even with so many games to check out and appointments to be kept though, a majority of the Marooners’ Rock staff took the opportunity to visit Bandai Namco’s booth during our free time to play Bless Unleashed. Although I was ultimately the only staff member to have a hands-on press appointment with the Bless...[Read More]
At PAX East 2019, I had the chance to check out Double Fine’s recently announced Rad, and while it didn’t have the best first impression, as I kept playing it kept revealing more awesome and enticing reasons for me to change my mind.
There were lots of games across all genres and budgets in Boston for PAX East 2019. Sometimes though, it’s a port of a classic that can really stand out. I had the chance to try out two of my favorite games of all time on the Nintendo Switch – Final Fantasy X / X-2 and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age – and I loved every second of it.
