Getting this headline brings a big smile to my face. I’ve actually been playing Earth Atlantis for the past week or so with the intent to review the game here on Marooners’ Rock. However, there were some glaring design flaws that halted my progress, and while I was completely ready to shred the game in that review, I could see some minor adjustments that could make it tons better.
Australian independent developer Considerable Content has announced that, with assistance from Australian independent publisher NNOOO, their platformer, Rogue Singularity, will be headed to the Nintendo Switch in the first half of 2018. Players take control of a “plucky robot hero” through an endless amount of procedurally-generated levels that feature everything from machines to alien...[Read More]
Games based off of movies rarely go well, but I think Way Forward may be onto something with their latest project. Teaming up with Universal Brand Development, those kooky kids behind Shantae have cooked up a Metroidvania with classic looking 16-bit aesthetics to promote The Mummy, which came out last summer. This is the kind of game project that when it was announced, I legitimately thought The M...[Read More]
While I missed out on traveling to Seattle for PAX West, I did get an awesome gesture by being given access to the King of Cards demo that was being played there. It’s the pleasure of the newest experiences in gaming from the comfort of my home!
Though I had an amazing time overall at PAX West 2017, there were a few stand out moments. This is one of them. I had the privilege to sit down with Goichi Suda, also known as Suda 51 and for his unique design style in games like No More Heroes 1 and 2, Let It Die, and Lollipop Chainsaw. He is revisiting the No More Heroes series and Travis Touchdown with Travis Strikes Again, which is currently i...[Read More]
Over the last five years, the WWE 2K franchise has received a lot of criticism from the gaming community due to limited roster size, lacking story lines, in-game bugs, and lack of create-able content. Despite the poor review scores, WWE 2K games still sell relatively well, probably due to the devoted WWE fan base. This year, WWE 2K18 looks to improve on what previous versions of the game has est...[Read More]
Confession time! I have a problem. I am hopelessly addicted to the purchasing of Amiibo, the wonderfully designed Nintendo figures that unlock things in various games. Amiibo are literally what I’ve always wanted as a child, a high-quality Nintendo figure that I could display proudly; the fact they unlock things is just icing on the cake. Out of the hundred or so Amiibo I have, Shovel Knight...[Read More]
This is where I want to see the Switch thrive. Sure, having awesome games is a must and we still really need that Virtual Console, but there are few things more awesome than the accessory possibilities for the system. Yesojo, a Chinese company based out of Shenzhen, is working on what’s called the Ojo Projector. This magical dock will allow Switch players to project their gameplay to just ab...[Read More]
The Switch is quickly becoming one of my favorite ways to enjoy retro-inspired games, especially if Neo-Geo games are a favorite. Switch players may have just received another reason to load up the E-Shop, as Retro City Rampage DX is now available.
Nintendo wrapped up all of E3’s 2017 press conferences this past Tuesday and in the process, made some pretty big game announcements. As per usual, Nintendo touched on a variety of topics during their spotlight presentation. This included updates on several already-announced titles and then the official announcements for brand new titles such as a Pokémon RPG and Metroid Prime 4, both of which are...[Read More]
Throughout my early gaming days, anything made from a movie, comic book, or otherwise popular franchise outside of gaming was usually a recipe for disaster. However, there has been a recent upswing in quality with titles made with intellectual licenses. Sure, its still not perfect, but licensed games are getting better.
The Nintendo Direct has just wrapped up, giving us a glimpse of what to expect from Nintendo in the next couple years, at least as far as games go. There was no word on things like the Switch’s online features or the virtual console, but there were several games teased during the video presentation. One of which brought a cheer to my throat. Metroid Prime 4 is currently in development for th...[Read More]
