Every year, gamers around the world are disheartened when they hear that a much-anticipated title is delayed past an expected release date; tensions only rise higher when said title is delayed a second or third time especially when little information is provided as to why. Earlier today, a site announced that the retro style game Sonic Mania had been delayed until September, however, we have learn...[Read More]

Nintendo recently announced that it had discontinued production of the NES Classic Edition, at least in North America. Today’s Nintendo Direct came as a bit of a surprise. With a majority of the announcement focusing on Splatoon 2 and ARMS, it seemed like this Direct would be a bit dull or at the least predictable. However, plenty of other smaller, often more exciting tidbits were revealed including some new games from NIS America. Disgaea 5 Complete is headed to Nintendo Switch later this year. While Culdce...[Read More]
One of the areas of the gaming world I am most interested in is the preservation of video game history. This leads me to pursue physical copies of games that did not receive the traditional retail treatment, which is what initially drew me to scheduling a meeting with Merge Games. Merge Games are probably most known for taking some of the best indie games around and giving them the ultimate physic...[Read More]
A few weeks back, I covered the announcement of Snake Pass coming to Switch. Even then, I could tell that this would be a game right up my alley, so I jumped at the chance for a demo at PAX East. For this demo, I played the Nintendo Switch version using the Joy-Con Grip controller, while others played the other platforms around me. Sitting next to me through the entire demonstration was none other...[Read More]
Almost two weeks have passed since the release of the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo could not be happier with its sales. The Nintendo Switch is currently selling so well due to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Nintendo Switch owners will not have to wait long for another major Nintendo franchise to launch on the Nintendo Switch though, because Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is coming soon.
So as a few of us here at Marooners’ Rock are finally getting some time with the new Nintendo Switch, there are a handful of games that many probably forgot to look for. Sure, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is probably the best reason to own the new console, but there are some awesome games available now on the E-Shop.
Recently some leaked images have been surfacing of the products launching alongside Nintendo’s long awaited portable hybrid, the Switch. This includes the usual fair of extra controllers, cables, and such, but also shares a blue, Zelda-themed starter kit that looks pretty interesting. Maybe Nintendo Switch’s launch isn’t so barren after all. Some of these accessories definitely s...[Read More]
Nintendo held a little hands on convention in Chicago yesterday for the upcoming Nintendo Switch. Open to the public, the event was on a first-come, first-served basis. Here, I got some hands-on time to test out the most notable features that the new console has to offer. From the seamless hand-held capabilities to the comfortable Joy-Con controllers, I can say this new innovative console may actu...[Read More]
Alright, so the internet has been a buzz with that video posted by the NeoGaf user, hiphoptherobot, which showcased setting up the Nintendo Switch and utilizing its touch interface. At the time, hiphoptherobot told people that the unit had come from an unnamed retailer who broke the street date. Come to find out, the unit was more than likely stolen by an employee and has been caught, terminated f...[Read More]
Back on the N64 and PSOne, there was a trend in the 3D platforming genre. Oftentimes players had to collect all sorts of trinkets in order to progress, with levels having multiple tiers of things to grab while exploring. A great example of this is Banjo Kazooie, a game that can only be progressed by getting so many Jiggies. Spyro the Dragon had elements of this as well, as the last boss battle was...[Read More]
I asked everyone in the queue line what they were running to, what they wanted to see first. The obvious answer was the Nintendo Switch, which is definitely what most were waiting patiently for. The same thing was true of most of the press at the show. It was more orderly, but both sides of the booth were packed with a line and I took the shorter route to try out multiple games over trying The Leg...[Read More]
