Hob PAX 2017 Hands-On Preview

I can’t help but feel captivated and deeply moved by the game Hob. During my hands-on experience at PAX East, I had the privilege of sitting down with members from the Runic Games team and trying things out myself. Needless to say, I was impressed and fell in love.

Hands on with Time of Virtual Reality’s Ancient Amuletor and Reborn VR

Back in March, I had the chance to try out all three of the major VR systems for the first time: Oculus, HTV Vive, and PSVR. Most of the experiences I played feel like an homage to classic arcade games, which is where I believe VR will eventually find the footing it’s been needing. However, there were some interesting developments from Time of Virtual Reality, a Chinese centered development ...[Read More]

Perception Is A Wonderful Mix Of Atmosphere and Characterization

Survival horror is a favorite genre of mine. I’ve always enjoyed good tension and feeling helpless in a video game (if that doesn’t sound weird). In my opinion, a good horror game needs to make the player defenseless, so the stakes feel even higher when approaching a each situation. A sort of disadvantage I guess I could say, the most common one is not being much a fighter, forcing the player to r...[Read More]

Victor Vran: Overkill Edition PAX East Hands-On Impressions

Victor Vran is an isometric RPG that knows what players love about the genre. It makes sure the player has a good time with what makes action RPGs so much fun. It heavily emphasizes loot and leveling up, and when playing a game like this, that’s all a player could really ask for. When I’m playing an RPG, what really keeps glued to my screen is how I can keep getting my character better and better ...[Read More]

Snake Pass – BEING the Snake During a Hands-On Preview at PAX East

A few weeks back, I covered the announcement of Snake Pass coming to Switch. Even then, I could tell that this would be a game right up my alley, so I jumped at the chance for a demo at PAX East. For this demo, I played the Nintendo Switch version using the Joy-Con Grip controller, while others played the other platforms around me. Sitting next to me through the entire demonstration was none other...[Read More]

Lightspeed Frontier Early Access Hands-On

When I last had a hands-on with Lightspeed Frontier, it was on the crowded show floor of PAX South, where I managed to (mostly) successfully navigate my way through the tutorial under the helpful tutelage of members of the dev team. However, with the game now launched in Steam Early Access, I’m free to spend a lot more time with this open universe/starship builder hybrid.

Nintendo Switch Hands-On Impressions In Chicago

Nintendo held a little hands on convention in Chicago yesterday for the upcoming Nintendo Switch. Open to the public, the event was on a first-come, first-served basis. Here, I got some hands-on time to test out the most notable features that the new console has to offer. From the seamless hand-held capabilities to the comfortable Joy-Con controllers, I can say this new innovative console may actu...[Read More]

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: The Wildlands Beta Hands-On

I’m a sucker for open world RPG games. The amount of time that I have put into games such as Skyrim and Fallout is a little embarrassing. So when I heard of The Division, I was hopeful for a current survival based RPG. It didn’t pan out however. Then I heard about Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: The Wildlands. I was skeptical. I had been burnt once before, and didn’t want to go through the heartbreak ag...[Read More]

HoloCube VR by Merge – PAX South Hands-On

I hadn’t done much during the designated press hour other than meet up with some friends, try to make a plan of attack, and raise some money with cookies.  I had a lot to look forward to during PAX South and I was getting to start it off by playing with something that made me tilt my head and have no idea what to expect. Merge VR had sent me a short email about the HoloCube and the one picture ins...[Read More]

Lucid Sound LS40 PAX South Hands-On Preview

With PAX South being in full swing at the time, one of my many appointments was with the Lucid Sound team. Some of you reading may know that in the past we have done a review of the Lucid Sound LS30 Wireless Headset. When I saw that they were introducing the LS40 as a flagship product, I knew I wanted to stop by and have a listen.

Streets of Rogue – tinyBuild PAX South Hands-On

Indie publisher tinyBuild had a huge booth at PAX South 2017. While there were many games to check out, you could tell that the tinyBuild booth was one place you needed to be. I’d already gotten myself killed in Hello Neighbor, but redeemed myself in party by “Bampf-ing” my way to success in Mr Shifty. Now it was time to crawl through some random dungeons in Streets of Rogue.

Mr Shifty – tinyBuild PAX South Hands-On

Indie publisher tinyBuild had a huge booth at PAX South. After finding myself unceremoniously dumped into a shallow grave in Hello Neighbor, the next thing that caught my eye was a gorgeously cel-shaded top-down action game called Mr Shifty.
