Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 is a difficult game to describe. Thom took a shot and described it as Hogan’s Heroes meets Inglourious Basterds. Wait…that wasn’t very difficult at all. That pretty much nails it, actually. It’s gory, violent, and over the top like Inglourious Basters, and it’s fucking funny like Hogan’s Heroes. As a side note, I feel comfortable swea...[Read More]
While Project Sora’s Kid Icarus: Uprising launch on the 3DS has been no secret the past few months, E3 brought about new details regarding Pit’s next daring adventure against the forces of darkness, including a tentative launch date, some nifty new features and a multiplayer mode.
Just a few months ago, I called the XBLA version of Torchlight the most fun I’d had gaming so far in 2011. Portal 2 dethroned it, and I’m afraid that this fall’s Neverwinter is going to bump it slightly more, but none of this changes the fact that Torchlight will still be one of my top 2011 games. At E3, I was privileged enough to sit down and play through one of the random event...[Read More]
I rarely let Facebook games dominate me in the way they seem to dominate others. Farmville was a passing phase, along with some other social house/city style game. There was a competitive geography game that I quite enjoyed, as well as something else that I can’t quite remember at this exact moment, but as you can tell, these games had such a profound effect on me that I can barely even reme...[Read More]
A lot of times, we look at superhero games as jokes. We always complain that they failed to “get” the character, yet there’s one superhero whose success in games actually outnumbers his failures. I’m talking of course about Marvel’s flagship hero, Spider-Man, and here’s the skinny on his next digital adventure from Activision and Beenox, Spider-Man: Edge of Time...[Read More]
When Robot Entertainment first unveiled their upcoming action/strategy game, Orcs Must Die!, I misread the title. “Orcs Must Dine!? Oh, God. Please tell me this isn’t just another port of Diner Dash but with a medieval fantasy skin over it!” Not that there’s anything wrong with Diner Dash, of course. Diner Dash’s time management system is a valid gameplay mechanic tha...[Read More]
This year at E3, Nintendo was not only celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Legend of Zelda series but also showing off the newest addition to the franchise; The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Nintendo Wii. I got a chance to play through a bit of Skyward Sword during E3, and as a huge Zelda fan I fell they are finally doing justice to the series on the Wii.
I grew up on Back to the Future. Now, I didn’t see it in theaters when it first came out, seeing as how I was still a few months shy of my third birthday, but as soon as I was old enough to understand the absolute brilliance of the series, I became a lifelong fan. If you aren’t a fan, then you’re just not doing it right. Luckily, Telltale Games managed to get a fan of Back to the...[Read More]
I was lucky enough to meet Martin Edmonson a few weeks ago at an Ubisoft event down in Santa Monica. As I recently mentioned, I was a huge fan of the original Driver PC game, going so far as to physically ruin my first copy of it from overuse (and possibly a bit of neglect), so meeting the man behind the game was an absolute treat. I ran into him again (a few times, actually) at E3, near the Drive...[Read More]
It’s hard to imagine that almost 12 years have passed since the first Driver was released. I can still vividly recall the levels, the missions, and most importantly, the driving on one of my favorite driving games of all time. I can still picture the underground parking garage where the tutorial section took place. I played so much Driver on my PC, back in the day, that I actually wore out t...[Read More]
Nearly 73 years ago, Orson Welles brought H.G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds to stunning life over the radio, creating a wave of panic throughout his unsuspecting listeners. Before the end of this year, nearly three-quarters of a century later, the narrative experience of The War of the Worlds is coming to both XBLA and PSN in the form of Other Ocean and Paramount Digital’s The War of t...[Read More]
I’m going to let you all in on a little secret: I love Star Trek. I’m going to let you all in on another little secret: Kirk is better than Picard. Picard has his merits, I won’t argue that. He’s #2 in the Captain rankings, after all. He’s just not Captain James Tiberius Kirk. Kirk and Spock represent one of the best dichotomous relationships in science fiction, and a...[Read More]
