Since the release of Mass Effect in 2007, the Mass Effect franchise has become a beloved staple of the SciFi gaming genre. Despite Mass Effect Andromeda being the black sheep of the series, Mass Effect is still beloved by many. On November 7th, 2020, Bioware announced the Mass Effect Legendary Edition. November 7th, also known as N7 Day, was a great day to reveal the remastered bundle. With a litt...[Read More]
Back at the start of 2020, EA announced that it was planning to release four “secret” AAA games before April 2021. During their earnings call, the team was vague about upcoming projects but hinted that fans would know two of the franchises. So far during 2020, EA has released Madden 21, Fifa 21, NHL 21, UFC 4, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered, and Star Wars Squadrons; although ...[Read More]
At PAX East 2019, we got our hands on a game that is often considered one of the best RPGs of all time. During our hands-on preview of Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition on the PS4, we got to see how Second Edition Dungeons & Dragon rules can be applied to a turn-based video game. I was originally introduced to Baldur’s Gate and D&D from Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance. Little ...[Read More]
In the two weeks since Mass Effect Andromeda launched officially to the world, the reception has been less than ideal for developer Bioware. Sitting at a 71 on Metacritic, it is by no means a bad game, but many claim it does not come close to the grandeur and legend that has become the original trilogy. The bright side of all of this? Bioware and EA have the means and resources to hopefully fix so...[Read More]
Full disclosure, I am going to spoil the crap out of the entire Mass Effect franchise to date. If you’re not cool with that, I can totally understand that. Here’s the TL;DR though, I love Mass Effect like some people love Shakespeare. It’s probably the most important piece of art that I have ever experienced.
I could sit here and make a handful of clever jokes that get the job done, but instead: FOR ALL THAT IS HOLY CARDS AGAINST HUMANITY AND BIOWARE ARE TEAMING UP. Now that that is out of my system, let’s get to the facts. Today it was announced that a Mass Effect Pack is coming.
Get ready Mass Effect fans because the wait is almost over! BioWare’s general manager Aaryn Flynn just recently announced in a blog post that the long-awaited fourth installment of BioWare and EA’s alien RPG, Mass Effect: Andromeda will be launching in North America on March 21st , and in Europe on March 23rd for the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC. This is exciting news for fans of the sci-...[Read More]
After completing Mass Effect 3 a total of four times on two platforms, countless hours of multiplayer, and numerous podcasts covering the story and controversies around it, I still don’t know if I’m ready to talk about the game. My career with Mass Effect as a series has meant completion of every game on both Xbox 360 and again on PS3, reading comic books and novels, and pulling everyone I could i...[Read More]
Marooners’ Rock has reached Episode 020, titled, “The Not Mass Effect Episode.” Despite its name, there is actually a great deal of Mass Effect discussion that takes place in this episode. That being said, there are also a great deal of spoilers for those who have not played Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, or Mass Effect 3. No content is held back, so if you haven’t had the cha...[Read More]
As soon as we came up with the podcast title for this week’s episode, I had a sudden urge for a sandwich. I could have asked my wife to make one for me, but I am particularly averse to getting slapped in the back of the head. “Stop Playing Tekken and Make Me A Sandwich” marks Episode 019 of Marooners’ Talk. We’re a day late because SOMEONE had to have a birthday yeste...[Read More]
This weekend I was all ready to avoid the Mass Effect demo. I didn’t want any spoilers at all, I wanted to walk into the opening of the game fresh so I could fully experience it as it was intended. I was doing a good job of avoiding the demo too, until news came out that the PC version was available for download and my resolve disappeared. Less than an hour later I was playing the PC demo...[Read More]
Limited to a run of 25,000 numbered units, Calibur11 is perhaps unwittingly responsible for what future Internet historians will refer to as “The Great Nerd Rage of 2012,” a major topic of discussion and consternation in future-students Early 21st Century Formative Events history classes. I can only hope against hope that those future-people will be excellent to each other, in much the...[Read More]
