One more New Year’s celebration. That’s all gamers are going to have to wait before finally getting their hands on YIIK: A Post-Modern RPG. On January 17th, 2019, the indie Japanese-style RPG from Ysbryd Games and Ackk Studios will be available for the Nintendo Switch, Sony PlayStation®4, and PCs and Mac computers via Steam.

Azeroth Arrival – Part Two – World of Warcraft at PAX East

Six years have passed since I last set foot on the virtual soil of Azeroth. Three additional expansions have further broadened the world, and piled more lore on the never-ending battle between The Alliance and The Horde. With the seventh expansion, Battle for Azeroth, slated for release this upcoming August, I had the opportunity to sit down for a short interview with two of the current World of W...[Read More]

Kingdom Come: Deliverance PAX East Preview

Whoever says that history is boring needs to play Warhorse Studio’s Kingdom Come: Deliverance. From what we saw at PAX East, this experience brought to the PC, PS4, and XBox One will almost certainly change their tune. Most of us have only had the past presented to us in hyper-condensed textbooks intended to get the bare minimum of necessary information crammed into our skulls. What that type of h...[Read More]

NITE Team 4 PAX East Preview

Perhaps the most unique game I had the chance to check out at this year’s PAX East was NITE Team 4, a story-based hacking game from independent developer Alice & Smith. An offshoot from their persistent world ARG The Black Watchmen, NITE Team 4, focuses on electronic surveillance, information gathering, and target penetration. In other words, players become hackers, going after targets b...[Read More]

Trailmakers PAX East Preview

When we last covered Trailmakers here on Marooners’ Rock, it was for the game’s initial rollout on Steam Early Access. With its subsequent inclusion in the Indie Megabooth’s 100 games at PAX East, I was able to get some hands-on time with the game and chat for a few minutes with a couple of the developers from Flashbulb Games.

Destination Primus Vita PAX Preview and Writer’s Choice Award Winner

A little bit of Myst, a dash of System Shock, a slice of life in cryosleep on the USCSS Nostromo, and a hearty helping of The Expanse. That’s how I would describe Destination Primus Vita, the science fiction first-person mystery series being developed by Epsilon Games.

Banner Saga 3, and Series Switch Port Hands On

At an early age, I had a fondness for chess, the different pieces having different moves available to them across a simple grid battlefield yet opened up to practically limitless possibilities. As I got older and discovered strategy and tactics RPGs and expanded on those same ideas I grew to love the genre. Controlling characters around an environment, using their abilities to gain advantage over ...[Read More]

Yuppie Psycho – PAX East Preview and Writer’s Choice Winner

It’s a feeling almost everyone can relate to: walking for the first day of work at the first big job, and feeling woefully underqualified and underprepared. But what if you really were totally underqualified, and your job description turned out to be something straight out of an X-Files episode? Yuppie Psycho pitches that question, melding together a rich blend of office comedy, retro graphics, an...[Read More]

Ion Maiden – PAX East Preview and Writer’s Choice Winner

“What if Quake and the last twenty years of FPS evolution never happened, and we were still making games the same way we made Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior back in the Nineties?” was the question that one of the guys at the 3D Realms booth said drove the development of Ion Maiden. Much more than another retro-inspired FPS, Ion Maiden comes from a legendary studio and resurrects an equally legen...[Read More]

PAX East Interview – Luke Woodham and Theo Thomas Discuss Castrol EDGE Titanium Gamer

Just a few days before PAX East started, Castrol EDGE and Electronic Arts teamed up for a unique challenge inspired by Need for Speed Payback. For years arguments have raged back and forth about whether virtual racers can match up with their real-life counterparts. With the advent of professional drivers coming to sims such as iRacing, and Gran Turismo Academy grads turning pro, the lines have onl...[Read More]

‘Projection: First Light’ PAX East 2018 Hands-On

PAX East 2018 is behind us, and while I played many games on the show floor, Projection: First Light stood out to me in terms of being one of many games I enjoyed playing; there were handful of games I kept wanting to run back and play throughout the week in Boston. What is Projection: First Light, you ask? It’s is a puzzle-platformer developed by the team Shadowplay Studios and published by...[Read More]

‘Pillars of Eternity II’ Deadfire PAX Hands On

Following in the wake of Larian’s sequel to their Divinity: Original Sin and knocking it out of the park, Obsidian hopes to do the same with their own sequel, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. Motivated by a strong desire to build upon what was established in the first entry, Obsidian had a lot to show off at their booth during PAX East 2018. The competition was kept alive on the show floor too, a...[Read More]
