Back in the days of my youth, I would spend a lot of days on sites like Miniclip, Nitrome, or OneMoreLevel. It was on those sites that I first encountered the pixel art style in gaming. Before that point, I had only come across them in arcades and other such establishments. And yet, I was hooked. I spent countless days fettering my summer afternoons in devotion to these pixel arcade games.
Set in the not so distant future of 2210, the game Antigraviator by Iceberg Interactive and Cybernetic Walrus provides a new take on the anti-gravity racing genre. After watching a couple races played, I was able to take a spin as well. And I was almost immediately became immersed into the beautiful and sleek landscape. Additionally, as I talked with the developer afterward, it was clear how much ...[Read More]
Combining the likes of the Mii Maker on the Wii and arcade games everywhere, the game Headsnatchers by Iceberg Interactive and Iguanabee, provides a unique take on the classic mini arcade style. During my time at PAX East, I had the delightful experience of getting to try this game first hand and also chat with some of the developers. When I was first introduced to this game, after struggling with...[Read More]
Following in the wake of Larian’s sequel to their Divinity: Original Sin and knocking it out of the park, Obsidian hopes to do the same with their own sequel, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. Motivated by a strong desire to build upon what was established in the first entry, Obsidian had a lot to show off at their booth during PAX East 2018. The competition was kept alive on the show floor too, a...[Read More]
*Please note that Player Unknown Battlegrounds (PUBG) is in the Game Preview program on Xbox Live and not in full release. One of the biggest games to take the PC world by storm was Player Unknown Battlegrounds. It quickly developed a massive following among some of the most popular streamers like Mr. Grimmmz and Kate Stark. Originally developed as a mod for other games, Player Unknown Battlegroun...[Read More]
There were quite a few brand new IPs being presented at PAX West this year, but not many from the bigger studios. Most of them had new titles of their popular IPs, but THQ Nordic had something entirely new at their booth, Biomutant. While I was scheduling my appointments for PAX this trailer came up in my email. . .
I game and travel—A LOT. I also stream, host events, and (if I can’t sleep) game in bed. So, it’s important to me have a headset that is comfortable, reliable, and produces high quality sound so I can hear everything going on in my games. The HyperX Cloud Alpha Pro Gaming Headset was released at the end of September, but before it was, I got a hands-on—or rather, head-on—preview of it. I can tell ...[Read More]
For the past few years, Monster Hunter fans have mostly had to make their hunts on the 3DS. They are amazing games and they really push the 3DS to create some of the best titles on the system. I doubt I’m alone in the desire for a new console release of this dinosaur toppling, dragon capturing, weapon crafting grindfest of a franchise. Then Monster Hunter World was announced and it looked like it ...[Read More]
As stated in other reviews and articles I’ve written, I’m a big fan of the classic dungeon crawler RPGs. Games like Baldur’s Gate, Ice Wind Dale, Diablo, and plenty of others are just a few of my favorites. That feeling of running through adventures and stories; it genuinely feels like the developers had taken some of my favorite fantasy novels and brought them to life. Epic story, adventure, and ...[Read More]
First impressions are everything, especially in a huge RPG. So far I have sunk about 8 hours into Destiny 2 and in that time the game has made quite the impression. During the first several hours, Destiny 2 has managed to convince me that Bungie really did listen to their fans’ feedback. I couldn’t tell you any sort of narrative moment within the first Destiny, and quite honestly I pre...[Read More]
Earlier this week, the beta for the highly anticipated Destiny 2 was released. There is definitely much excitement to be had with this upcoming sequel as the original Destiny’s player base has grown tremendously since it’s initial release. I for one have been very optimistic for Destiny 2, and now that I have gotten some good time in with the beta, here are my impressions.
Seven: Days Long Gone was a bit of a surprise to me when I got the chance to see it back at E3. When I was told it was an isometric open world RPG, I was a slightly skeptical as isometric open world doesn’t seem ideal. Luckily, I was proven wrong once I got to see what exactly developers IMGN.PRO were actually trying to achieve. Now what I ended up seeing was still part of the pre-beta, so we stil...[Read More]
