Racing games have always been a secondary form of gaming entertainment for me. They’re fun, but like sports games, I can only play for so long before I find that it’s time to step away and play something with more substance. This has always made it hard for me to pay full retail for a racing game, because I know that it will take me an incredibly long time, filled with large gaps, to m...[Read More]
I’ve been playing a lot of Awesomenauts lately, recently released on XBLA and PSN. How much have I played? Let’s say I’ve ranked up from Level 1 to Level 15 in a pretty strong run. Have you been looking for a great downloadable game to kill time with? Awesomenauts is by far one of the most interesting things I’ve found lately on the Xbox Live Marketplace. I had a chance to ...[Read More]
I was going to start this piece off by talking about the impressive roll that Digital Reality was on in 2012 with titles like SkyDrift and Sine Mora, but a quick search through our published articles reminded me that SkyDrift was actually all the way back in September of last year. I find myself consistently surprised with how quickly this calendar year is passing us by. My point still stands, how...[Read More]
WINNERS HAVE BEEN CHOSEN! WilliamRLBaker, Frank Frankleton, NEO_METATRON, Aaron Stewart (Getsuga_Tensho), and JD (mysticfail) have won the XBLA codes. Keklar, thewolfkin (ramdomwolf), Jack (gxgear), Michael Garrett (garrett0024), and rann (rann78) have won the PSN codes. Congratulations to the winners, and good luck on the next contest! Hot on the heels of Rayman Origins critical success, Ubisoft ...[Read More]
Today, the team at Ubisoft and RedLynx announced that Trials Evolution is still breaking many records. The game itself has already garnered more than 500,000 players via its global leaderboards since its critically acclaimed launch one month ago. They’ve gone above and beyond in creating a fantastic arcade style game, and its fast growth attests to that quality.
The fact that I still hold out hope for Sonic titles speaks directly to just how much of an impact the original Genesis titles had on me as a lad. For two decades, I’ve played Sonic titles. Even though Mario has a more consistent track record of quality, Sonic’s high points have been bigger and better than Mario’s across the board, in my opinion. I think what I’m trying to ...[Read More]
Earlier this year, an announcement I had been hoping and waiting for longer than I care to admit was finally made: Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater would be reworked into a downloadable title based off of the original games. THPSHD will feature classic levels from the first two Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater titles, chosen by the fans and by Tony Hawk himself. Today, we learn that post-launch DLC for TH...[Read More]
Five days ago, I had never played Minecraft. I didn’t understand the fascination, or obsession, with it, and I was content. Having spent the past five days in my personal realm of Doompocalypse, a land of opportunity, freedom, and dreams fulfilled, I begin to understand. Minecraft is the frontier. When Americans were blazing new trails into the west, they went with what they could carry or c...[Read More]
I’m not sure what happened between Peter Molyneux and one chicken whose viciousness and fowlness (heh, get it?) we can only assume were such that the world has never seen before. All I know is that it resulted in the common chicken being singled out and having one hell of a hard time in the Fable universe. From a player stat specifically urging the player to kick a chicken farther and farthe...[Read More]
The second entry in the inaugural Arcade NEXT XBLA promotion from Microsoft is Climax Studios’ Bloodforge. Up to this point, Climax Studios has had a nearly unbroken run of ports, spin-offs, and media tie-ins, with the occasional original title thrown in for a bit of variety. From the PlayStation port of the first Diablo to the Ghost Rider movie video game adaptation, it looks like Bloodforg...[Read More]
I started playing Trials Evolution Tuesday afternoon, and I knew that I was going to have problems. Immediately, I became intently focused on the track leaderboards. I saw names…I saw targets. Success! I topped the leaderboard for Oil Crisis and sent a celebratory tweet to those hapless fools that had been humbled and shamed by my incredible skill and deft control. Twenty minutes later, my t...[Read More]
One of the highlights of this year’s XBLA House Party was Alan Wake’s American Nightmare. It made me want to play the original Alan Wake, a title I had skipped because of my lack of interest in its genre. High praise, from me. The game has been out now for well over a month, but a new trailer has been released. Normally, I find that a review is the best purchasing advice I can give, an...[Read More]
