If there’s one thing that can usually be counted on about public transit, it’s that you’ll get to your destination. Eventually. Your bus may catch fire, you may get your shoes covered in vomit, you could get stuck in traffic in a snowstorm for four hours, your bus might be forty minutes late, then three of them show up all at once, but you’ll get to your destination. Probab...[Read More]
While PAX West didn’t offer too many major surprises, as many of the big moments were shared a day early or even shortly after the event, there was plenty of games to enjoy, play, and discuss. From the mass of indies at the Indie MEGABOOTH to the hidden gems sprinkled throughout the show floor independent design was fierce at PAX West. We picked six nominations for the Best Indie Game at PAX West ...[Read More]

The popularity of games centered around overcoming extreme difficulty has surged tremendously in the last decade in the wake of the extremely well-received From Software’s Dark Souls, and later titles Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice to the point that other games that strive for this challenging, combat driven experience are often called “souls-like” or “soulsborne” games. One of the thing...[Read More]
Moon Studios’ Ori and the Blind Forest received critical acclaim when it was released in 2015 for Xbox One and Windows. The 2D platformer was praised for its tight controls and challenging (but fair) gameplay. In 2016, Moon Studios released the Definitive Edition, which contained more areas, and a new difficulty system. This included a One-Life mode to truly test the most skilled players.

As I’ve said before, we are in a new era of fighting games. This is not a bad thing as many of them are taking lessons from the past and are taking a more “back-to-basics” methodology. Samurai Shodown takes this way of thinking and drives it home in a pure, bloody, technical fashion.
Back in 2011, the team at Bethesda published RAGE on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, a game developed by the legendary iD Software and one that I considered to be crazy fun. Alas, I can’t link to the review I wrote back then as it was before my time here at Marooners’ Rock and the site where that review was published is no more. While I had a great time playing RAGE at the time and enjoyed ...[Read More]
On Monday of the E3 week, we got to smash, crash, and bash our foes in the rebooted classic Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled. Prior to this hands-on preview, I had only once played Crash Team Racing. As a child, I would typically play Mario Kart as my main racing title of choice until purchasing a PS2 and learning about Juiced and Need for Speed. At PAX East 2019, Andrew got to preview the rebooted...[Read More]
