A while back, I heard that Valve hired Defense of the Ancients (DotA) developer Icefrog into their team. With Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends in development, the former being a DotA clone and the latter a DotA revisualization by original members, a Valve version didn’t seem to cross my mind. I mean, they should be working on Half Life 2: Episode 3, am I right? Anyhoo, since Valve is doing everything in their power to prevent Episode 3 from ever seeing the light of day, there’s two signs of evidence to support a Valve developed DotA.
First, we have both Kotaku and Joystiq reporting that Duke Nukem’s voice actor, Jon St. John, tweeting about how he was in Seattle to do voice over work for a DotA game. Shockingly, the tweet has now been removed.
Credit MTV for the quote: “Had a great time in Seattle last week recording for DotA. The guys at ValveSoftware are awesome!”
Adding more fuel to the fire, Joystiq today reported that Valve has filed a trademark for “DOTA.”
As a player of both the original Warcraft 3 mode DotA and HoN, I’m looking forward to seeing more about this in the future.
