What if every decision you made played a pivotal role in your survival, and that of those around you? While that situation sounds a little too much like real life sometimes, it’s also the key mechanic of upcoming turn-based RPG Ash of Gods from developer Aurum Dust.
The story of Ash of Gods revolves around a brave group of four adventurers who band together to stop a plague of darkness and death that is sweeping across the land. Sacrifices will be made, harsh choices abound, and the player must decide who lives and who dies. The new story trailer illustrates how the peaceful world of Terminum is uprooted by the beginning of the “Great Reaping.”
The game’s main writer, Sergey Malitsky, had this to say about the game’s branching storyline: “Imagine a fairy tale, a book, or a movie in which you not only follow the adventures of your hero, but also open all its secret rooms, pulling all the skeletons out of everyone’s closets, and discovering tales that were best untold. Not only can you save your heroes from unnecessary risks or undesirable actions, but your actions can likewise plunge them into danger and terrible twists of fate. This is a game in which you can play and live, but understand that your tale develops according to the laws of the real world. And this means that even if a happy ending is in sight, it is not guaranteed.”
Ash of Gods is a turn-based RPG with an evolving story, complemented by an online PvP mode. Player choices will have major influences on the story, allowing for significant replayability. In advance of the game’s March 2018 release, the entire soundtrack has been released on Soundcloud. This is indie developer Aurum Dust’s first game.
