Confirmed! Super Smash Bros. Is Coming To The Switch!

Super Smash Bros. fans are in disbelief after today’s Nintendo Direct!

It’s no secret that Nintendo has had Super Smash Bros. fans on the edges of their seats ever since the Nintendo Switch’s announcement back in 2016. Despite fans loudly echoing their desire for the series to be brought to the Nintendo Switch, it often felt like their voices were falling on deaf ears and that Nintendo wasn’t listening.

Hope slowly began to fade from many members of the Smash community after the Nintendo Switch was launched in 2017 and the list of major titles for the console that year released without including a Super Smash Bros. game. While many fans refused to give up the hope of seeing Smash brought to the Switch, many others became doubtful and cited interviews from late 2014 where the creator of the series, Masahiro Sakurai, stated that he had no desire to create another Super Smash Bros. game.

After years of silence and much frustration from the fans regarding the future of the Smash Bros. series, Nintendo finally dropped the bomb. During Nintendo Direct a particular trailer began to play. The trailer featured Inklings playing, jumping, splatting, and having a blast, but something was off and the scene turned dark. What started out as a potential Splatoon trailer quickly transformed into something greater and had fans roaring with excitement across social media. Appearing from the darkness was a firey Super Smash Bros. ball logo followed by shadowed characters like Mario and Link from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The trailer wasn’t a Splatoon trailer at all, it was Nintendo’s genius way of officially announcing that Super Smash Bros. is coming to the Nintendo Switch in 2018.

What’s in the trailer is all the information we’ve been given by Nintendo. We know that Smash is coming to the Switch and that it’s coming sometime in 2018. The main thing that we don’t know but want to know is whether the game is going to be a ported version of Smash WiiU or if it’s going to be an entirely new game itself and feature a fresh roster of characters. We’ll continue to watch Nintendo and wait for updates, but one thing is certain and it’s that fans are hype!
