What a way to kick off the Playstation Showcase. As of now, we have gotten two bits of content shown for the highly anticipated Last of Us Part II. To start off 2018 Playstation’s Showcase, we got our first glimpse of real gameplay showing off the savagery that we’re expecting from Ellie. The demo first starts off as a cutscene that introduces us to a few new characters, most notably a woman who Ellie is currently with. We get a nice tender moment with some beautiful music playing in the background as Ellie dances with her new love. As soon as the kiss starts, the tone pulls a complete 180 as we see Ellie brutally slaying some poor schmuck.
Creative Director Neil Druckman said Hate is the common theme for Part II, which contrasts to the theme of Love in the original game. Hate seems to be on full display as Naughty Dog is not pulling any punches with this visceral combat Ellie is engaging in. There is a sense of hate shown on display as Ellie as being seen as the hunter in this gameplay, rather than just trying to escape.
