With the PC launch of Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales less than a week away, CD PROJEKT RED is still hard at work building up the hype. Today they released their latest trailer, showcasing a taste of the gameplay that players can expect in this isometric RPG/card battle spinoff tale set in the Witcher universe.

A single player RPG set in the world of The Witcher, Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales tells the story of Queen Meve, a veteran warrior queen of two Northern Realms. An impending Nilfgaardian invasion forces Meve back into battle, and onto path of vengeance and destruction. As players take control of Meve and her forces, they’ll have the opportunity to explore new and never before seen parts of The Witcher world, and adventure with both new and familiar characters. With an estimated campaign length around thirty hours, Thronebreaker is far from just a bite-sized episodic adventure.

In the trailer, we see a showcase of how exploration will work in Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. The game uses an isometric perspective familiar to fans of action RPGs such as Diablo for its exploration components. Cinematics feature a hand-drawn picture style, while combat resolves itself with a CCG-style card game representing the units and tactics at Meve’s disposal.

Thronebreaker The Witcher Tales CHOICES-AND-CONSEQUENCES

How players choose to deal with certain scenarios will have consequences later.

CD PROJEKT RED has developed a reputation for high quality games, and this Witcher spin-off looks to continue that trend. It will be interesting to see how well-received this spin-off is once it’s launched. Given the success of GWENT: The Witcher Card Game, this writer would be shocked if Thronebreaker failed to become a solid hit.

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales will release for PC on October 23rd via GOG.com. A console release for the PlayStation®4 and Xbox One console families will follow on December 4th. The game can be pre-ordered for PC via GOG.com, or the official website witchertales.com

which takes interested purchasers directly to the GOG.com ordering site. If Thronebreaker follows the trend of previous Witcher games, it will eventually make its way to Steam and other PC sellers as well, however, since CD PROJEKT RED owns GOG.com, it makes sense for it to appear first on that platform.
