Microsoft’s X019 event has been anything but lackluster. Earlier today Square Enix announced that every Kingdom Hearts title would be coming to the Xbox family in 2020. For more information, you can read about the Kingdom Hearts announcement through this link. Just when the world thought Square Enix had dropped its bombshell they fired another without warning. Starting in 2020, classic Final Fantasy titles will be coming to Xbox and joining Xbox Game Pass. If it had not been for Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts would never have existed. Now is the perfect time for Final Fantasy to come to Xbox.
Over the last decade, RPGs have become one of the three biggest game genres. Despite shooters and action/adventure games dominate the marketplace, RPGs have altered the landscape bleeding into the other two. Although I have limited experience with Final Fantasy outside of 10, 13, and 15, I am thankful for the series because it gave the world Kingdom Hearts.
For the formal announcement, FINAL FANTASY Brand Manager Shinji Hashimoto took to the stage to announce that starting in 2020 key Final Fantasy titles would be joining Xbox Game Pass. All active Game Pass members will be able to play some of the more recent titles. Hopefully, Final Fantasy 7 HD will release on Xbox at some point. Below is the official list of Final Fantasy titles joining Game Pass in 2020:
- FINAL FANTASY VII
- FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered
- FINAL FANTASY IX
- FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster
- FINAL FANTASY XII THE ZODIAC AGE™
- FINAL FANTASY XIII
- FINAL FANTASY XIII-2
- LIGHTNING RETURNS™: FINAL FANTASY XIII
- FINAL FANTASY XV
