After a controversial release and swift recall for extremely “adult” content, Lust for Darkness: Dawn Edition will return to the Nintendo Switch’s American eShop. Developer SimFabric worked long and hard to create this psychological horror game. However, they went too far last time according to the American eShop and ESRB raters. They deemed the game too erotic for even America’s mature audiences. Despite receiving an Adults Only rating, the game was withdrawn from the eShop. Now, after many months and a variety of revisions, SimFabric is ready to rerelease the title. Thus, Lust for Darkness: Dawn Edition shall return to the eShop next week for the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Ooh… Mood lighting and masks… That’s either sexy or deeply frightening.
Recall and Rerelease Details
Note Well: This rerelease is specifically tailored to American audiences and ESERB ratings. It is a “special version” adapted to that audience’s sensibilities.
For whatever reason, Lust for Darkness was only pulled from American stores. The Australian and European versions never left. They remained as they ever were since their release in 2019. That being said, Lust for Darkness: Dawn Edition could prove more comfortable for anyone who was put off by the original version’s blatant sexual themes. Regardless of edits, Lust for Darkness: Dawn Edition will still immerse players in a Lovecraftian world heavily influenced by the painter Zdzisław Beksiński.
In short, get ready for a seriously creepy trip.
Unfortunately for American audiences, we only get the Dawn Edition. Australian and European audiences, on the other hand, get to choose between that version and the original. For them, it only depends upon how raunchy their tastes are.
The Game
Warned you. Lovecraft. This is gonna get funky…
Players will explore dual realities inspired by the imaginings of the aforementioned artists with a strong sense of erotica thrown in. While exploring a Victorian mansion, players can access portals to enter the atmospheric and haunting world of Lusst’ghaa. Although Lusst’ghaa is inhabited by dangerous and deadly monstrosities, do not expect the mansion to be much safer. You are, after all, trying to uncover a mystery that spans both realms. The danger must, of course, permeate both.
While players can follow their tunnel vision to complete the main story, there are benefits to investigation. Should they wish, players may hunt down concealed items to access stories that shed some light onto the game’s lore.
