Earlier today, Valve announced that the highly anticipated Steam Decks will be delayed. Like many other manufacturers and companies around the globe, getting supplies to their destinations has become rather problematic. Stuff that would take hours if not days to produce is now taking days to weeks. This is partially due to shipping issues affecting the supply chain. Because of this, there has been a shortage of supplies with delays to be expected. This can easily be seen with the delays of cars, limited supply of Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, and increased prices on building supplies. Now, Valve’s Steam Deck Delay can be added to the list of delayed items.
In their announcement earlier today, Valve revealed that all Steam Decks will be delayed by two months. All Steam Decks delayed will still be delivered in consecutive order. So if you were one of the first to potentially receive one, you will still be at the front of the list when the delay is over. Here is Valve’s formal announcement regarding the Steam Deck delay.
Valve’s Announcement
The launch of Steam Deck will be delayed by two months. We’re sorry about this—we did our best to work around the global supply chain issues, but due to material shortages, components aren’t reaching our manufacturing facilities in time for us to meet our initial launch dates.
Based on our updated build estimates, Steam Deck will start shipping to customers, February 2022. This will be the new start date of the reservation queue—all reservation holders keep their place in line but dates will shift back accordingly. Reservation date estimates will be updated shortly after this announcement.
Again, we’re sorry we won’t be able to make our original ship date. We’ll continue working to improve reservation dates based on the new timeline, and will keep folks updated as we go.
