At PAX East 2019, we got our hands on a game that is often considered one of the best RPGs of all time. During our hands-on preview of Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition on the PS4, we got to see how Second Edition Dungeons & Dragon rules can be applied to a turn-based video game. I was originally introduced to Baldur’s Gate and D&D from Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance. Little ...[Read More]
Earlier last year, the world was shocked by the announcement that Telltale Games was shutting down after multiple years of publishing popular narrative games. The episodic giant had pushed its workers to the brink and even then the company still sunk. With the closure of Telltale, many wondered what would happen to the titles under Telltale’s control: Wolf Among Us, Batman, Tales from the Bo...[Read More]
For six years, fans of Irrational Games’ Bioshock franchise have searched for a dystopian steampunk adventure that could rival their beloved franchise. Before heading to our hands-on preview with Storm in a Teacups‘ Close to the Sun, we knew very little about the title. This led to us searching out a short trailer from Gamescom 2018 to give us a taste of what to expect. From the traile...[Read More]
PAX East 2019 was a crazy turn of events for us here at Marooners’ Rock. Even with so many games to check out and appointments to be kept though, a majority of the Marooners’ Rock staff took the opportunity to visit Bandai Namco’s booth during our free time to play Bless Unleashed. Although I was ultimately the only staff member to have a hands-on press appointment with the Bless...[Read More]
At PAX East 2019, I had the chance to check out Double Fine’s recently announced Rad, and while it didn’t have the best first impression, as I kept playing it kept revealing more awesome and enticing reasons for me to change my mind.
There were lots of games across all genres and budgets in Boston for PAX East 2019. Sometimes though, it’s a port of a classic that can really stand out. I had the chance to try out two of my favorite games of all time on the Nintendo Switch – Final Fantasy X / X-2 and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age – and I loved every second of it.
At PAX East 2019, I had the chance to get my hands on Dragon Quest Builders 2, the sequel to 2016’s Dragon Quest Builders developed and published by Square Enix, that features gameplay that remains a wonderful mixture of Dragon Quest and Minecraft. Is the sequel more of what made the first game great or a tired re-hash of a good idea? Our hands-on time gave us a look into answering that ques...[Read More]
“If Heaven and Hell decide that they both are satisfied, illuminate the no’s on their vacancy signs. If there’s no one beside you when your soul embarks, then I’ll follow you into the dark.” The song “I Will Follow You Into the Dark” by Death Cab for Cutie kept playing in our head during our PAX EAST 2019 Devil’s Hunt hands-on preview. What if the pe...[Read More]
During the Nindies Showcase Spring 2019, many games caught my eye but Katana Zero stood out. Katana Zero, which is being developed by Askiisoft and being published Devolver Digital, surprised me as it was my first time seeing the retro-inspired gameplay. Soon after, I heard Katana Zero was to be presented at PAX East 2019 at the Devolver Digital booth. I had to make sure that I got my hands on the...[Read More]
When thinking of Devolver Digital, that outlandish publisher that has shown just how graphic E3 can get, what games come to mind? Some of the games in their impressive library include hits like Serious Sam, Hotline Miami, Shadow Warrior, Katana Zero, The Talos Principle, and Genital Jousting just to highlight a few. At PAX East 2019, Devolver Digital granted us a hands-on preview with My Friend P...[Read More]
