Axiom Verge, at its core, is a tribute. It’s a tribute by a hardcore fan who loved what’s been dubbed the Metroidvania style of game. The man who created it is Thomas Happ, whose history as a developer didn’t truly shine until Axiom Verge’s conception, the sole developer of the art, music, and game design. The project started in March 2010 and didn’t see release until...[Read More]
A little while ago, I reviewed Earth Defense Force 4.1 for the PlayStation 4, giving it high marks due to its sheer entertainment. No, its visuals and set-up won’t win any game of the year awards, but when it comes down to brutally saving the world from an alien invasion, it gets the job done. Can’t argue with that.

With sales of the series skyrocketing and sure to go up again with the third installment, (see Rob’s review) it’s clear that how challenging a game is can make or break its overall design. Stranger of Sword City ta...[Read More]

Some series engender heated debates, with supporters enamored beyond comprehension, while detractors will take any chance to dismiss the series. Danganronpa is a series that precious few people I know are tepid on. Oddly enough, I was extremely dismissive of the series initially (full disclosure and all that), so the thought of diving into Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls was nerve...[Read More]

Remember when games were easy to quantify? This was before the days of mobile, indie, and Kickstarted games. Games were games. There was, and still is occasionally, a disconnect between how games are viewed when someone sits down to review or play them. Now, one of the most important things you can bring to a game is context. A great example is Fantasy Heroes ~Unsigned Legacy~, a game for the Vita...[Read More]

I first got my taste of Ragnarok on PC due to the MMO, but it didn’t really pull me in as much. Why? When playing any MMO I prefer to have one that has some controller support since select games offer it than learn all the commands t...[Read More]
