Pokemon Go Kanto Tour Bonus Event Details and Criticisms

Kanto Tour Bonus Event

Last month, Pokemon Go trainers could participate in Niantic’s Pokemon Go Kanto Tour. During the event, trainers had the opportunity to catch shiny variations of some of their favorite Kanto Pokemon. Trainers also had the chance to battle against regional Pokemon such as Mr. Mime, Kangaskhan, Farfetch, and Tauros. In addition to regional Pokemon, trainers could catch Kanto legendaries such as Mewtwo, Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno. For the event, Niantic stated that trainers would have increased chances at catching shiny Pokemon. Due to a bug in the game, PoGo trainers who did not purchase a ticket were still able to participate in the event. Because of this Niantic announced the Pokemon Go Kanto Tour bonus event.

During the Pokemon Go Kanto Tour bonus event, trainers will have the opportunity to unlock a variety of rewards. The event started earlier this month but already has had a few issues. Trainers who did not purchase Kanto Tour tickets have access to the Pokemon Go Kanto Tour bonus event. At the moment, Niantic has not announced what they plan to do about this, but the rewards they are offering feel lackluster compared to shiny Pokemon. Below, we will be going over the rewards you can get during the Pokemon Go Kanto Tour bonus event and how to earn them.

The Rewards

The Pokemon Go Kanto Tour bonus event runs from March 5, 10 AM to April 5, 10 AM local time. The bonus event has three stages that are easy to complete. Here are the steps you need to complete and the items you will receive.

Stage 1

  • Catch 20 Pokemon  = 10 silver pinap berries.
  • Use 10 berries to help catch Pokemon = 500 XP

By completing this stage, you unlock 500 stardust, 1 lure module, and 500 XP

Stage 2

  • Power up Pokemon 3 times = 1 poffin
  • Earn 3 hearts with your buddy = 1 super incubator
  • Evolve a Pokemon = 1 lucky egg

By completing stage 2, you unlock 1 Fast TM, 15 Ultra Balls, and 1 Charged TM

Stage 3

  • Catch 10 different species of Pokemon = 1000 XP
  • Make 10 great throws = 3 silver pinap berries
  • Complete 10 Field Research tasks = 1 star piece

By completing stage 3, you unlock 1 Elite Fast TM, 100 Mew candy, and 1 Elite Charged TM

Do you think these rewards from the Pokemon Go Kanto Tour bonus event are adequate? Personally, I find them a bit insulting. Trainers paid $12 for an event that others were able to get for free. Rather than giving trainers an additional day of catching, Niantic gave their players items they could get out of free gifts or for spinning Pokestops consecutively. These rewards feel like a cheap bandaid covering the wound. Overall though, let me know your thoughts on this whole event.
